Wax on Wax off

Mr. Miyagi, Daniel Larusso

The Karate Kid is so quintessentially 80s to me. As a grade school kid I had a great time watching it. How could you not love Pat Morita? And I fondly remember that Glory of Love song by Peter Cetera.

It will be interesting to see what they do with this new Karate Kid featuring Jackie Chan and "Will Smith Jr".

Life in Amsterdam

I tend to forget how remarkable it can be for tourists, how we Amsterdammers do most of our traveling through the city by bicycle. Just the other day, I talked about this with a friend who lives in Texas. There, even if you wanted to, its just something you dont do. Not just because of the large distances, but also because of crime. Huh, I have to say Im a happy cycling Amsterdammer, even more now.

Although I dont even need to get onto my bike when I have to get groceries. Just around the corner there are many shops with lovely stuff. Like this pomegranate. Makes my mouth water just thinking of it.

Sketchcrawl

Last Saturday, it was Sketchcrawl day. During the global sketchcrawl, groups of sketchers all over the world meet to sketch in public together. Because I was in the South of the Netherlands, I couldnt organize a Sketchcrawl in Amsterdam like I did on the previous sketchcrawl day, but I did go to sunny Maastricht to hook up with about 20 sketchers. We met at the St. Servaes Bridge, which I drew to warm up a bit. In the right corner, I drew in the silhouet of a few fellow sketchers.
While almost the whole group of sketchers was facing and drawing the river Meuse, I was drawn towards this row of houses (facing the other way) somehow:
Both parents of my parents were from Maastricht. I had no idea though, that when my grandmother was young, she used to live on the top floor of that very building on the left. As you may or may not know, my grandfather used to be an artist painter, and he actually made a painting of the view over the roofs, out of the window.
Of course I knew my grandfather made many paintings of the river Meuse, and of the bridge I drew there, too. After posting a photo of my drawing on my Facebook page, my uncle told me this little pieve of family history.

Journal Page mandarins

Its the little things in life that can make huge differences.

Last week it was the first week of this round of JustDrawit. I enjoy every single course day. Its wonderful to inspire the participants to draw every day live things, and to make drawing a daily habit.

In two weeks, the course participants will learn how to use their coloured pencils for a drawing like this one. If you want, you can learn this too and enroll for the next JustDrawIt course in June! Why dont you have a look here?

Parasoul Animation Old work May 2012

Here is a little work Ive never posted the wips, well Im gonna show the steps I did to get the final animation of Parasoul from Skullgirls breathing,
Visit their page is an awesome fighting game, and is comming to PC this 2013

www.skullgirls.com

1. Well I did first the animation freehand, I didnt use vectors or any program more than Photoshop and some layers to separate the frames. Here as you can see, I tried to simulate the original physics of the game while Parasoul is standing in guard, the boobs bouncing was just too amazing in the game and I tried to emulate it, I failed and I decided to take it off.

2. No more Bouncing, I just cleaned the lineart and I added more frames and a better timing.

3- Base colour, I wanted to see how it looks with the bouncing effect but didnt conviced me

4. More Faster? nop, well in this phase I was just experimenting I kind of like some frames and some dont, it was a really joyfull moment!

5. Cleaned up and effects and shading added. 10 hours to this point, again I wanted to see how good was the bouncing effect on her but, it was not enough, so I get rid of it.

6- Finished (10 hours frame by frame drawn by hand, no vectors no timeline, just freehand).

Keep on!
