Journal Page mandarins
Its the little things in life that can make huge differences.

Last week it was the first week of this round of JustDrawit. I enjoy every single course day. Its wonderful to inspire the participants to draw every day live things, and to make drawing a daily habit.

Journal page on Kings Day
On Kings Day, which used to be Queens Day for many years, it can be quite crazy and busy here in Amsterdam. This year I was happy to get out of the city, by attending a performance in Naarden of The Dirt Road Music Band, in which my husband is the banjo player, since a few months.

They were great! Theres a certain chemistry going on between those men, and it was clear all of them were enjoying the performance a lot. Their stage was on the back of a truck, and they were making it bounce with their blue grass tunes!
Are you curious? Then listen to some tunes of Dirt RoadMusicBand on Facebook, and if you like them, like them!

Sometimes you need new shoes. Because on the trip youre on, you only brought superwarm winterboots and it turns out to be warm, with unexpected spring weather at your place of destination... and yeah it helps if theyre brightly coloured and affordable too...

Yum.

Journal page Dad
My dad joined my very first session of the online drawing course JustDrawIt! Since he joined, he has a new hobby, and its drawing. He really made a habit out of drawing and he enjoys it very much. Every fortnight or so, we hook up for a sketch date. On these evenings, we make our drawings for Illustration Friday for instance. Sometimes, we just cant stop drawing, even if its getting real late. I drew him, just before I was leaving last time we met for a drawing session.

Have a look at his drawings here! Youll also find drawings he made during the course, like this apple

Last time we met he said: "If it wasnt for you, I wouldnt be doing this, and I dont want to miss it for the world. I was very touched by his words, and so happy to have inspired him into a new hobby.
If you want to have such happy drawing moments, why not join my Online Drawing Course JustDrawIt!?

Journal Page a Swiss trip
I went to Switzerland for the wedding of my brother-in-law. On the way back, I drew this in my sketchbook (above), with a felt pen I had bought at the airport. Ahh yes, the best way to spend waiting time is a. sketching, and b. shopping for art supplies.

On the way to our destination in Switzerland, I sketched in the train:

We could include some sightseeing to our program while we were there, and for the drawing below, I took the time to take everything in and see the many details. Like a monk, in fact, I sat near a desk where monks used to write page after page for this library... A very impressive sight, and an almost meditative drawing:

Heres a sketch I did of the married couple, with a photo for reference

Journal page

I was only going to fill the left page, and then fill the right page the next day with something totally different. But then I found myself pulling that one line of the knee, into the right page... Now the question is... how to fill the right page? Im sure Ill come up with something that combines well, or perhaps Ill get back to that same spot and draw further, as if I never got up and drew everything in just one session. Well see!
The drawing was done in a Moleskine journal with an HB pencil.
Do you know I can teach you how to draw like this? In my online program, I will teach you how to draw like a pro, in just 6 weeks. Have a look by clicking here.

Still going strong, with A Selfie A Day!
Hated the one I did on April 4 here in the left corner of the page. I had a sketch date with my dad the day after and decided to ignore the ugly face and draw half through it. I now really love the page, as I took a lot of time to draw my fathers kitchen and get all those details and colours in too.

As you can see in the selfie in the bottom right corner, dinner was great.
Today is the second official World Wide Sketchcrawl of this year! I will be sketching with a group of like minded people in Amsterdam this afternoon, and looking forward to it.
You can find out more about the Sketchcrawl I am hosting in this earlier post or find a sketchcrawl group to join in your area by clicking here and type your town or city in the search bar.

Journal page The Queen

The Dutch queens birthday was on the 31st of January. The day before her birthday, she announced that her son will take over in April this year. I browsed the internet and found a gorgeous photo of her majestys young self, and drew her portrait in my journal. I guess the photo was made in the seventies.
For this drawing I used an HB pencil, a 3B, 5B and 7B pencils, an eraser pencil and a kneadable eraser.
