How to make progress not excuses
Do you ever make up excuses?
Sure you do. And thats fine. We all do. The traffic has been crazy, the weather conditions awful, the dog ate our homework... |

What about Making Art? Yes, I use capitals for the two words, just to make it worse. There is this invisible threshold to start, even though you know how good it makes you feel, when youre creating something. And its not even about the result, just the process of Making Art itself is satisfying enough. Yes, we have busy lives. And yes, some days can be super hectic. But really, is it an excuse to not do what you love? |
Easier said than done, huh? Because maybe you feel like your art isnt as awesome as it should be. You try drawing things that you see and then the drawing turns out to be all wonky, the perspective is off, or youre bored with drawing the same stuff over and over again, because you only draw inside your home. Because heading outside to draw feels way too intimidating and scary. Or youd like to be able to draw people, but mess up their faces and hands every time you try. Sounds familiar? |

In fitness, theres this saying: "Excuses dont burn calories". The Just Do It approach is straight forward, and makes you move forward. Because after all, even if you fall flat on your face, youre still moving forward!
So lets go and make awesome art!

Progress A lot of it
Argh! I Am so excited I cant even sleep properly anymore. Or I might be on LA time. Or New York. With all the video call meetings Danny and I did I get confused. NewLAmsterdam time zone more likely, if that would exist.

My mind just keeps going! Danny and I have been working on our project frantically and are still going strong. Things are really starting to take shape. Its amazing how easy it is to connect every time through FaceTime or Skype and brainstorm about ideas, solve problems, overcome obstacles and make decisions together. Youd almost forget theres a 10 hour flight between us.
Danny is brilliant with words and he keeps coming up with these great texts and scripts, its amazing. I am putting together the graphics that we and the rest of the team are going to use for classes and everything around it. If I may say so myself, it s starting to look great.
Our amazing team of worlds greatest sketchbook artists are just as excited as we are, and were THIS close to launching! Seriously, this is SO exciting. Im not surprised I cant sleep.
Were about to do something new and its gonna rock your world.
Curious? We will keep you updated as soon as we got news for you, if you fill your name and address below
Psssst... just name dropping and reveiling a tiny bit here:
Jane, Prachant, Tommy and Roz are working on some real good stuff from all of their corners of the world!
Stay tuned, were nearly there and almost ready to finally share the goodness!

New Progress Reel Animation Mentor Class 5
I just finished Animation Mentor Class 5- Advanced Acting! All I have left is to take Class 6- Polish and Portfolio, and Ill be an AM graduate!
I considered putting my AN05 animation into a new demo reel (my current one is here), but decided to wait. I decided that because #1: I want to re-render all these shots since Ive been learning more about lighting with Digital Tutors (I got 1 free month for entering the CG Student Awards). And #2: Im going to start revising many of these shots in AN06 in just 1 week. So I decided Ill wait until the end of Class 6 to upload a new demo reel.
Itll be nice to be able to go back and rework these shots in AN06. Ive learned so much the last few months that already several things stand out to me, especially in my AN02 and AN03 work. I may even get to make a whole new shot/sequence in AN06, depending on what my mentor decides. Either way, it should be fun, and Ill graduate with a great looking demo reel!
But thatll be about 13 weeks from now, so in the meantime, heres my progress reel! Its pure Maya 2013 playblast animation, no rendering, no extra music, etc. Again, if you want to see my prettier demo reel (with rendering and music, but minus my AN05 animation) you can see it here: http://youtu.be/ClDsJu92_88 .
